Radiography
Description
X-rays or other tests are ordered by physicians and interpreted by radiologists to help in diagnosing illness or injury. Test results will be explained by the primary care physician. Many x-rays today use special contrast medication to give detailed pictures of some parts of the body.Purpose
X-rays can be used to see fractures in bones, pneumonia or other illnesses affecting the lungs, obstructions in the abdomen, or foreign objects in the body or under the skin.Risks to the Procedure
The amount of radiation exposure during normal procedures is well within the acceptable standards of safety. CT
Description
Computerized Tomography (CT) scans create images for diagnosis through the use of computers that are interfaced with a special x-ray unit. The images created are two-dimensional, showing organs in a cross-sectional presentation as they lie within the body. The head, chest, abdomen, pelvis and spine are routinely scanned.Purpose
The CT scanner continues to be one of the key elements for diagnoses of disease and injury, providing physicians with valuable information that can lead to successful patient treatment.Risks to the Procedure
This uses radiation to get images.Mammo
Description
Digital mammography is a technique that is used to create an image of the breast. It can reveal changes in the breast before they can be discovered by a woman or her doctor and often can indicate whether or not a lump is cancerous. Of course, a biopsy is needed for confirmation.Purpose
The digital mammography process is rapid. Typically, it takes only 90 seconds for the image. The image provides resolution that allows for identification of small structures, especially tumor calcifications in the breast.Risks to the Procedure
Minimal radiation is used to get these images.Ultrasound Procedures
Description
Ultrasound is a technique for studying structures within the body by using high frequency sound waves.Purpose
Ultrasound is most frequently used to look at structures in the abdomen such as the liver, gallbladder, kidneys and pancreas. With the urinary bladder filled, the pelvis can be studied to see the uterus and ovaries, or to follow the progression of a pregnancy. Why choose Rice Country District Hospital
